Terms of Service

Welcome to Cascara. These terms govern your use of cascara.cafe and the Cascara cellar service, operated by Cascara Coffee Co. in BGC, Taguig, Philippines. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter a contract. You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account.

2. Membership

Free membership gets you a Palate Kite, the ability to log brews, rate beans, and contribute to the catalog. Paid memberships (e.g. Drop subscriptions, Calibration Sessions) add bag delivery and in-cafe access; their specific terms appear at checkout.

3. Subscriptions, payments, refunds

Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled. You can cancel any time from your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.

Payments are processed by PayMongo. We don't store card details. Prices are in PHP unless stated.

If there's any issue with an order, reach out to gil@cascara.cafe within 7 days of delivery and we'll see what we can do.

4. Catalog contributions

When you submit a bean, roaster, tasting note, comment, or correction to the public catalog:

  • You confirm the content is accurate to your knowledge and not copied wholesale from a third party.
  • You grant Cascara a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to display, redistribute, and incorporate the contribution into the catalog and the recommendation algorithm.
  • Contributions are credited to your account by default. Provenance tiers (cascara_verified, community_verified, pending) govern how prominently a contribution is shown and how heavily it influences the algorithm.
  • Cascara may edit, merge, fork, or remove contributions to maintain catalog integrity. We don't undo accepted edits on demand, but you can request your authorship attribution be removed.

5. Acceptable use

Don't:

  • Submit false, misleading, or spam catalog entries.
  • Scrape, mirror, or bulk-export the catalog without written permission.
  • Reverse-engineer the recommendation algorithm.
  • Harass, impersonate, or post abusive content in comments or notes.
  • Probe, attack, or interfere with the service's infrastructure.

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice depending on severity.

6. Intellectual property

The Cascara name, logo, brand assets, software, and original editorial content are owned by Cascara Coffee Co. Roaster names, bean names, and product imagery shown in the catalog belong to their respective roasters and are displayed under fair use for cataloguing purposes; roasters may request removal of their listings via gil@cascara.cafe.

7. Algorithm & recommendations

The Palate Kite, brew deltas, and recommendations are opinions generated by software based on your inputs and the community catalog. They aren't guarantees of taste, quality, or fitness. Stored brew deltas are immutable — when we improve the algorithm, we version it forward; we don't rewrite history.

8. Service availability

We aim for high uptime but don't promise it. We may change, pause, or discontinue features. We'll give reasonable notice for changes that materially reduce paid benefits, and pro-rate refunds where appropriate.

9. Disclaimers & liability

The service is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by Philippine law, Cascara disclaims all implied warranties (merchantability, fitness for purpose, non-infringement).

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cascara is not liable for any claim, loss, or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential — arising from your use of the service.

10. Termination

You can delete your account any time from /me/account. We can terminate accounts for violation of these terms or for prolonged inactivity. Paid balances are not refunded on termination.

11. Governing law & disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines. Disputes are resolved in the courts of Taguig City, Metro Manila, unless mandatory consumer-protection law requires otherwise.

12. Changes

We'll update these terms from time to time. Material changes are emailed to active members at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
